  1. Michelle
  2. Belinda
  3. Coralie (Cory)
  4. Sharon
  5. Karie

Enjoy!

It's Time

I have just sent the list of 220 names to Kathie to choose use to randomly choose the winners (using this random number generator web site).

If this is your first month, you received three extra chances, courtesy of those who donated theirs this month.

If you have never won the Block Lotto, you received one extra chance from the pool of donated chances.

We will have FIVE winners.  The first four will receive sets of 48 blocks; the fifth will receive a set of  28 star blocks.

I'm already looking forward to seeing the quilts our winners will make from this month's blocks.

My Five...

Here are my stars...
Thanks Karie

Squeaking In

Thank you for the warm welcome I received on my first post.  I appreciate it!

I'm cutting this kinda close, but here are my last 4 star blocks.  I just don't have enough time to squeeze out one more.  I've been sewing like a fiend this afternoon and evening to finish these!  This brings my total to 8 blocks.  I would love to win some of these blocks. . . but I know there's lot of others out there with the same thought.

My fingers and toes are crossed!

coming in under the gun

I didn't think I'd be able to enter this much even though I REALLY wanted to. I had two costumes to make, and threw in the towel on #2 (same pattern as #1's but much smaller and I am NOT a clothing sewer!)

So here are my two entries. I could do more but I need to finish my book that's been ignored the past week and change =)

It only takes one to win right?

Add Two More

I wanted to give these a try and these are way fun!!!

Two more stars

I managed to do this two this evening, but I think that's all for this month...

Wonky Stars

I just gotta say that I am loving all the blocks that have been posted this month and I really, really, really want to win. Who can I bribe?

Another Star

Belinda Made Me Do It

Hi all,
I'm Sharon and I'm a newbie - just joined.  And it's all Belinda's fault!  I saw the stars everyone was doing and I fell in love with them!  I love wonky stars!  So, I "talked" to Belinda about the Block Lotto and she talked me into signing up!  She really didn't have to twist my arm too hard. . . LOL.

I know I'm getting into this lotto late, but I have high hopes.  Here are my first 4 stars.  I've made these before, so I think they're pretty easy.  I'm trying to only use the scrap bin to make these.  I hope to get more made before the deadline, but I wanted to get these posted right away.  I actually had two of them made before I emailed Sophie to join!

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here.  I see lots of talent here!  Everyone has made some wonderful wonky stars.

Come on over and visit me at my blog when you get a chance.  I'm at Indigo Threads.  You can see some of my other wonky "liberated" projects.

Startastic -(Star-tas-tic) (adj) describing super looking star blocks on the block lotto! (this work may or may not be in the dictionary yet) LOL!

Two More

Here are two more for me....If we have enough for 4 winners, that's more chances for me.  Yay!  This block was fun once I got used to it.  I did discover that while I have some neutrals, my stash does not include a lot of light value colors.  I'll have to remedy that.
Janet S.

Oh My Stars!

Well, after a summer absence, I'm back to making blocks for the lotto. These came together so fast and easy. Here are my nine for this month. Are we over the amout for 4 winners? Have a good week everyone.
Shelley

Four Stars for Tamera

Here are my four blocks.  These were a blast to make.  I think I shall have to think about using them in a quilt.

One Star

My first one and I hope I have the time to do some more.

My last two stars

The rest of my week is booked, so I guess this is my last two stars for October!

Final Four For Me

I finished my last four today. I really like this block. My family really likes it too. I think {if I don't win} there will be some Variable Star making for me in 2011.

With Joy,
Sarah Vee

For this star, I was experimenting with having the points in the squares not touch each other.

Three more Stars

Two More Stars from San Diego

It's Sneak Peek Sunday

If you have made and posted a photo of your block(s) for October, expect email from me later today with the information about November block.

I planned to make some sample blocks this week (as well as make some stars to help push us to the threshold for a 4th WiNNER), but life did not go as planned and I confess that I have been pretty much paralyzed by fear.

The sneak peek really requires a sample ... so the mail will probably be going out LATE TONIGHT.  I apologize in advance for the delay.

Two Stars from San Diego

: )

Just one more!

I just couldn't resist doing one more of these little stars! They are so addictive to make. What I really like is that they can be made any size very easily, and with little to no calculations! So cool! I hope I'm a lucky winner this month! (This makes 10 for the month)

News from Mary Jane 2

I took my first steps tonight.  The doctor finally said it was time to start learning to walk again.  Not the most pleasant experience, but a "step" in the right direction.  Thanks for all your well-wishes, geese, prayers and words of encouragement.  They have meant a lot to me!!

Debbie's one star block

I really like this month's block, but there's just one from me, so far. I wanted to get it in, in case I don't have time to make any more.

Last 2 From me this month

Hi everyone, hope you are all well. Here are my last 2 variable stars for this month. I have learned a lot from these!! Mostly patience!! lol
Just off now to get a cup of hot tea. It's bitterly cold in Shetland today and the forecast is SNOW!! Need to get that quilt finished!!

Mail

Sorry, sorry!
Tamara your houses are late in coming! I've mailed them off today so look for them to arrive shortly.

All my houses are at their new home

The houses from Janet R. and Maree arrived here in Allentown this weekend. Like all the others, they are bright, cheerful and a joy to have won. On our travels my husband always likes to point out colorfully painted houses, saying how he loves to see something out of the ordinary. Now I have a whole set of colorful houses surrounded by beautiful turquoise skies. I know he'll love what I do with them. Thank you all for participating last month and for mailing them off so promptly. Kathie L in Allentown

Starry Eyed

Three more stars for me. These are really fun to make. I'm considering making these blocks as my 'calendar' quilt project for next year. This year I'm making a string quilt. But I digress!
I'm hoping to make 4 more stars before the month is over to maximize my chances for winning:)

Last of the Houses

The last of the houses arrived in Missouri.  Thank you other Janet.  They are gorgeous!  That makes all the houses for my little town.  I'm going to make some wonky trees to go along with them.  I'm excited about this project, but I don't really expect to have time to finish it until after the assorted holiday obligations ( and maybe a few more wonky stars before the end of the month)

Thanks again all you wonderful ladies.  The blocks are awesome.  I love block lotto.  It's both fun and it also stretches my skills.

Itty Bitty Variable Stars

At the bottom of Sharon's post on her blog Quilt Granny's Shoe,  are photos from her retreat with Gwen Marston, including this detail photo of her favorite of Gwen's quilts.

The star blocks are only THREE INCHES.  Five of the star blocks are combined with plain squares to make a 9-patch, then the 9-patch blocks are sashed with three inch strips and more star blocks for the corner stones.  Follow the link to see more photos of this quilt and the liberated projects that everyone made at the retreat.

A Couple More for the Pot

Hi everyone, I'm beginning to think my blocks are a bit like the Noah's Ark animals as they seem to be coming in two by two!!! These two will take my total to seven so far this month but I do have another 2 'sets' cut to take me up to nine, and I plan on doing them tomorrow.........

Off now to check on my roast chicken!! It smells very nice!! Kate A

More houses

houses arrived in Missouri today...all the way from New Zealand!  Thanks you so much Maree.  Love them!

Variable Star, Oct. 2010

Nine variable stars to add to the total for this month. I've made smaller 6" blocks, I called them wonky stars for a baby quilt a few years back which went to the hospital to a babe in the Neonatal ICU. They made up into a nice baby quilt. I think I had more trouble getting the points to cover the squares when I flipped the fabric this time. It's something I need to work on to make it easier to make the stars because they do turn into interesting stars.

My last 3 Stars

Three more for the pot.

1+8=9 for me!

Over the last few days I have completed 8 more Star Blocks for this month, bringing my total to the 9 pictured below. These are fun blocks to make and I restricted myself to not cutting into FQ's or yardage but using scraps only. I've learned that rotary cutting uses abdominal muscles to some extent, less so if done sitting down....I'm still a bit sore, but doing so much better one month out from the surgery. Still a few more weeks of restricted lifting to avoid a hernia, but I'm starting to do a bit of housework including laundry and hanging it on the line, but the kids get to carry the baskets for me. Tomorrow I get to go grocery shopping, as I can drive now (my 17 yr. old son has been taking care of that for the past month). And 33rd Anniversary date with DH tomorrow night

Two more stars - #2 & #3

I was able to squeeze out two stars yesterday.  I found the small red star in a box of leftovers from a mini-quilt I had done years ago and decided it needed a wonky star to border it!
I have pieces laid out to work on three more today...so far things haven't cooperated with me to even start. :-(

Another Star from Me - Kissing Ponies

I really love this one, the ponies are so cute kissing in the middle and the spic and span fabric looks like more stars in the night sky.
Cheers,
Teesha

rho's last 3 Variable stars for the month

these last 3 stars are no.#s 7, 8 and 9! Hoorah!

More thanks for houses that have arrived

The British post is doing a wonderful job, as I received my blocks from Helen, Kate A and Kate N. Andra's blocks also arrived. They are making quite a colorful neighborhood. Thank you all for being so creative in your construction. I especially love the ones with a figure in the window. Best wishes, Kathie L in Allentown

A few more for this month's bucket

Here are the four stars I've made for the month. It was great to just pick out some of my smaller scraps and find a home for them in this block. I know they will be as fun to win as they were fun to make. I'll donate my blocks this month since I was a lucky winner of liberated houses last month. Kathie L in Allentown

Another House & Stars Quilt

I had to share another quilt made from houses and stars.  This one is made from Thimbleberries' pattern and fabrics and is anything but liberated . . . but when I saw it on Stephanie's Loft Creations blog this morning, I immediately thought of re-making it liberated style.

Yes, the list of quilts-in-my-head is endless ;-)

Two more Variable Stars

Hi everyone, here are 2 more stars from me.

I have cut 4 more 'sets' for this block and will endeavour to get them sewn up before the end of the month as well. If some of my squares look rectangular it's only because I cropped the photo a little as I'd taken it at a "variable" angle!!! lol
Hope you are all well and enjoying stroking fabric!!

More Houses!

Ladies, it's raining Wonky Houses at my house!  They're all so beautiful!  I've been gone so much the last few days, I haven't even had time to sit and pet them!

Thanks so much everyone!

Blocks arrived

More houses arrived today.  Thank you Andra and Caroline!  They're awesome!

Barbara's Stars

Usually, I'm not crazy about the liberated method of block making, but I really like this star pattern. I just can't quite get the hang of it. You would not believe how many pieces ended up in the trash. Anyway, here's my 9 for this month.

4 more Variable Stars / rho

Now making a total of 6 stars for the month!

Houses have arrived

I had a wonderful week of receiving houses in the mail last week. It is such fun to see them in person. Thanks to Carrie, Cathy, Coralie, June, Laura, Michelle and Pat for getting them to me so quickly. Kathie L in Allentown

Fun Stars!

Here are my nine stars - what fun they were to make! Hope to win them as stars and scrappiness are so my faves.

Just looking at the nine in this photo makes me happy...looks like a mini quilt already!

Variable Star

Here are 2 blocks for this month. These were so fast and fun to make. I hope I can find time to make more before the end of the month.
Terri

another wonky set

A couple of more stars for the pot. I wasn't able to do the star in a star that Belinda did, but I did admire her two-fabric points.

Two More Blocks

Hi, here are 2 more variable star blocks from me.

I plan to make more but it depends on my health. Have been in hospital twice in the last week. Next time will be surgery so I'm praying there's NO next time!!!
Take care everyone!

I'm back.  Hope these pass muster. Please donate my blocks to the pot and my chances among the newbies.   Also, I will be mailing "geese" next week.  They are wrapped and ready.

More Houses Arrived Safely

Came home from a stressful day at work, and found envelopes!  Yea! 4 envelopes of cute cute houses!  Nice pick-me up.  Thank you so much Cathy, Pat, Julie, and Linda.  I love them all.  I don't know how I'm going to work this whole thing out, but it's gonna be super cute.
