Got my two trees for Ramie in the envelope just as DH was going near the Post Office.  So he did the chore for me and they are on their way!

December 2010 Trees

Trees have been sent out to Julie W., Julie P., and Ramie. Congratulations!! I tucked an extra pair of trees into each envelope, and a note in each except for Ramie's. I had already sealed her envelope when I realized that the note was not included. The extras are a bigger size, but I hope that you can use them in some way.

stacks of coins

The Cricket was on the TV, so I was able to spend time in my sewing room sewing ;-)

I have come to the realisation that I don't have many 'bright' fabrics, but I do have some jewel fabric left over from last month's trees and will do a couple more using those ;-)

Speaking of trees, my trees will be in the mail to the winners today or tomorrow.

That's it for me - back to the real world today with grocery shopping and washing and ironing ;-)

I'm Back

After a much too long absence, I'm back with 9 blocks for January. I really like this block, it would make a great children's charity quilt. Gosh, I didn't realize I have so many pieces of lime green in my stash.

Four More from Sophie

Like a few other people, I needed to go buy some white fabric before I could finish my stacks. These four more make a total of 9 for me.

As I was sewing these up and looking for the right side of the white-on-white print I purchased, I realized that I must have PAISLEYS on the brain. I have been bidding on some feedsacks on eBay and most of the ones I like have paisleys as part of the design ... and so does the white-on-white fabric I just picked up. It made me start wondering if I should go a non-traditional route and use the paisley WOW as a background for my 1930's vintage feedsacks, instead of a 30's repro solid?

Oh, fiddle sticks...

I was just sitting here having a conversation with myself:
...Well done for finishing another 4 blocks
... That seemed much easier to find bright fabrics than for the trees
... I could have used some of these fabrics for the trees, why didn't I?
... Oh that's right they were too small to wash first as they might fray too much
... wash?  wash?  wash?  Where did that word come from?
... Oh *&^%$£  - I forgot to wash the fabrics for the stacks!!!

So apologies to all, can I withdraw the 3 stacks already entered, and I'll go and wash some lovely brights and get and wash some more white, and start again for January's blocks

Irene's Stacks

I hope I'm doing this correctly.  This is the first month I have participated in "Block Lotto" so please bear with me.  My photography skills are not the best either since it seems that the true colors of the fabrics did not come out.  And then there's something to be said about my lack of blogging skills.  The list goes on and on...

Only the name has changed ...

This blog has served a couple purposes over time, the last of which is a place to blog quilt block and project patterns in a place that makes them easy to find  . . .  instead of mixing it up with everything else I blog about on my personal blog, sophie junction.

As the functionality of blogger expands, I am considering the possibility combining the two. In the meantime, linking them through their names seems a logical first step.

FYI, I also want to create printable/downloadable versions of the existing and future patterns, because I like to download and save things . . .  and I know I'm not alone.

Blog Post Labels

I saved this image from another blog because I thought it might come in handy for beginners and others. It shows where the button is to add images (something we ALL do) and where the box is to add labels for your post.

You can use the labels to find a bunch of related posts.  In our case, if you use the labels I create for each month, we have an easy way to see all the posts related to the block OR just all the posts with eye candy.

Personally, I use the block name label when I'm looking for all the "I've mailed" and "I've received" messages when I'm trying to chase missing blocks and I use the month-year-photos label when I want to link to all the photos of all the blocks for a specific month.

Some other useful labels/links are:

Quilts - posts about quilts made from lotto blocks
Quilt Block Index - yearly posts with the list of the blocks we made and links to the directions and block photos
About the Lotto - posts about the Block Lotto
Brainstorming - posts about planning the future (with lots of great comments ;-)

Andra's Stacks

Here are my 2 blocks for January.  It is a fun block and a great scrap user.  Unfortunately, I do not have my scraps organized at all so it is a chore to find them all.  These may be the only ones I get done-at least for the first part of January.  I have to get back on track-gotta go to work on Monday.

Changes to Block Lotto Blog

If you follow the Block Lotto Blog with a smart phone, then you already know that I turned on the mobile template for this blog.

You won't see any of the stuff that's in the side bars (like the monthly list of blocks) unless you click over to "view the web version," but, I am really happy with how it displays the blog posts.  You'll see the the first image in the post and a few lines with an arrow to click to read the whole post.

The mobile version also has the "tabs" for the extra pages at the top.

Speaking of extra pages ... in case you use a feed reader to read the blog and missed it, I have added a Blog Roll.  It will contain the list of blogs written by those who make lotto blocks in 2011 and have shared their blog info with me.

For the moment, the list consists of anyone with with a blog who received the sneak peek email and made January blocks.  I know it will become considerably longer during the year.

Speaking of blogs, don't forget that if you want to add the block lotto badge to your blog, the code you need to add the image and link to your blog or website is in the right sidebar.  For directions on how to add it to a blog on Blogspot, see the post, Adding a Block Lotto Badge to Your Blog.

December Winner in shock!

Hi, [imagine very shocked face], I cant believe that for my first month with Block Lotto I am a winner.  Thank you all so much for letting me join, and mega thanks to the kind ladies who donated their chances to myself and the other newbies. 

I am still giddy from the email (I missed the winner announcement post as my screen cleared the December posts and just showed January's) and feel incredibly lucky as this is my second blog win in a week (me, whose last win was a jar of honey 39 years ago!)

I look forward to being able to pay forward my luck, and will be donating my stack blocks (with a reluctant sob, but fair is fair!) so that will spread the luck!
