And the Winners Are . . .
Congratulations to our November Winners:
We had a lot of donated chances this month, which went to our newbies, Linda and Linda, then to anyone who hasn't yet won, then to anyone who hasn't won this year.
Because we were close to having enough for four winners, these three are receiving fatter-than-usual sized sets.
Congratulations, Ladies.
The December block will be posted tonight at midnight. If any of the sneak-peekers have made blocks but not yet sent photos to me, I'd love to have them so I can include them in the announcement blog post tonight.
#1 - Trudi (67 blocks)I waited too long to recruit a volunteer this month, so I ended up doing the "drawing" myself (using the free random number integer function at random.org).
#2 - Laura (56 blocks)
#3 - Terri (56 blocks)

Welcome Linda!
We have another newbie named Linda this month. Linda N is from Dallas. I met her at a Guild Guild of Dallas new member event last Spring and I'm happy to see her here . . . and sorry that she is also having problems accessing the blog.
Here are her 5 blocks.
Welcome, Linda!! With your blocks and Pat's nine, we now have a total-so-far of 166 blocks.

The Sneak Peek is Coming . . .
I know that at least one of you is wondering if you missed the sneak peek . . . and the answer is that LIFE has been in the way, but I plan to send it out later today.
In the meantime, for anyone who wants to get started . . . the fabrics for the December Block will be quilter's choice. It's a two-fabric block and I'm hoping everyone will use this block to showcase some of their favorite fabrics and/or fabric/color combinations.
I'm sorry for the delay.

I'm Baaack!
When Sophie saw on my blog that I am back into quilting, she suggested I take time to make some lotto blocks, which sounded like a fine idea to me. SO I started Sunday night getting fabrics chosen and cut. Monday morning I started sewing. Then My DH interrupted the process with a request for a baby gift quilt for one of his students who is becoming a father for the first time at age 48. Knowing I was going to be gone all day Wednesday, I said "probably not" and promptly challenged myself to do it anyway. And I did! I finished it yesterday before dinner. So before bedtime last night I got back to the lotto blocks and trimmed the triangles and started sewing them 9 patch together. FInished up this morning and took a picture with my phone camera, which unfortunately has a scratch on its lens.

Today I received:

My personal deadline was today. Whatever number of blocks I had done were getting posted. I got 6 finished.
If I have time I would like to make 3 more.

I wasn't
I really was going to skip this month because I have so many Christmas projects going on right now, several I want done by Thanksgiving to send as early presents (quilts that are Christmas themed mostly) but as I was getting some Christmas themed fabric out of a tub to use as backing I had to pull out nine different Christmas themed fabrics....yup, nine exactly. So I made them.
Then I made two sets. Two. One for me, and one for the lotto. One set to keep if I win and can send the other set to the other winners (I noticed we had at least 100 blocks so far this month and it's only the 14th) so I could be selfish but not too selfish. And if I don't win, then I have an idea for all this other random holiday fabric I have. (Easter fabric? with fancy scissors on it? If you need some, I have it! hehe!)
As I was cutting the fabric I told myself "I'll just donate my chances this month, I have too many projects for this Christmas and I'd hate to have those blocks just sitting around for 10 or so months before I put them into a project.
Then I made two sets. Two. One for me, and one for the lotto. Moral of the story, here are my nine blocks, and yes I am playing for the pot this month. Good intentions out the window.

Some Well-Aged Lotto Blocks
I just saw these on Michelle's blog, Quilts 'n' Kids 'n' Stuff and had to share.
The blocks are some well-aged Hope of Hartford blocks won in the lotto a few years ago . . . I was surprised when I scrolled down the list of blocks in the left sidebar to see just when these 30's blocks were our lotto blocks. It didn't seem it was so long ago (February 2006).
Click over to her blog to see what else she's been up to lately–she's been busy and the result is some lovely eye candy/charity quilts ;-)

seven spools
I could only find seven Christmasy fabrics in my stash, so that's how many blocks I made. Since I'm clearly not much of a holiday fanatic, I'll donate my chances this month to those who've never won the lotto.

Three Spool Block Variations
Here are three more blocks for this month–I'll be donating the chances for these.
If you click the photo to see the larger images to see where the seams are (and where they aren't), you'll be able to tell that they were not made from squares and half square triangle units. I'll be posting directions in the next day or so, if anyone is interested . . . and you might be, if you want to use 2.5 inch noodles or don't want to slice up a large print any more than necessary.
It's not rocket science and you could probably figure it our on your own, but it was fun to play with the various ways one COULD make this block . . . OK, we all know just how easily amused I am ;-)
BTW, it is perfectly OK to make this block however you like this month as long as the proportions are the same as the blocks we've been making. If you're especially on the run this month, you might even think about carrying them with you and hand-piecing them, like my center block.

Have You Mailed Your Milky Way Lotto Blocks?
I finally walked my Milky Way blocks to the post office today and mailed them . . . how about everyone else?
This is my birthday month and your gift to me could be to mail early so I don't have to spend the end of this month chasing missing blocks for our winners . . . between us, I'm having a rough time and I would really appreciate it.
If you haven't yet mailed, please please PLEASE get your blocks in the mail this week if at all possible.
In case you're wondering. I was passed over for the perfect job at the dream company by the twenty-something hiring manager . . . so you all can uncross your fingers now. I've recently passed the one year anniversary of losing my job in Michigan and another major milestone birthday yesterday, spent alone and mostly forgotten. I'm coming to grips with the fact that I'm facing some pretty harsh age bias in my job search for the first time in my career and I don't have a clue how I'm going to get around it, find a job and keep a roof over my head.

Linda's Spools
Linda has been a fan of the Block Lotto for years, but (I don't think) has never actually made blocks until now. Welcome to the Block Lotto, Linda.
Here are her 8 traditionally pieced, spool blocks.
(Click for a larger image to admire those Y-seams ;-)
Her blocks bring our total-so-far this month to 60 blocks.

Something finished
I used my Thrifty block winnings from earlier this year to make this weighted blanket for a niece with disabilities -- each block has some poly pellets in it and the weight is supposed to be comforting. There's a little more information and a link to instructions on my blog --

October Mailing Info Has Been Sent
If you made October lotto blocks, you should have email from me with mailing information.
If you didn't receive the mail or there are any errors, be sure to contact me ASAP.
This month we have a new challenge for the lotto. Trudi tells me that the Royal Mail in the UK is on strike and that there are several 1-3 day strakes (stoppages?) planned over the next few weeks. So Trudi may see some additional delays on blocks coming to her and Dianah may experience some delays on blocks from the UK.
Let's all try to mail early so that any added delays don't really matter to our winners Trudi and Dianah.
