rho's Polka Dot Quilt - "Final Destination"

http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/575820421YrHGro

This is the final resting place for the "Polka Dot"Quilt. I won the blocks in the Block Lotto in Dec. 2009. I have posted pics before of this quilt................. but I have always wanted to show it..... in final - on my sister's bed. The URL is my webshots page which shows the entire progress while constructing. Take a look/see.

We LOVE the Block Lotto! Yes we do!

Rho's Finished Quilt from Polka Dot Blocks

There's a "firewall" between Rho and the blog right now, but she wanted to share the "final" photos of her quilt made from her December 2009 lotto winnings . . .  so she emailed me these photos.  She wrote:

I wanted to show these "final" pics of my block lotto winnings to everyone.  I've have it quilted now, and it's on it's way to my sister for it's final rest, or home I should say.

A big thanx to all who sent me the blocks to complete this quilt.  It turned out well, if I may say so and my sister loved it when I first sent the pic to her.  I used every single block I was sent and I made an additional forty or so to complete the project.  A real team effort.

The perspective in this photo is interesting . . . because it was taken by her 4-year-old granddaughter.

Honestly.  I was out in the backyard, where I usually am taking these pic, and she said "grandma", "grandma", let me take one - so I let her take one. And pic #1 is the result.  You'll notice the "vantage" point in pic # 1, is due to her height perspective.

I uploaded these photos to my Flickr photostream, clicking any of them will take you to the flickr photo page with options for seeing larger images.

Thanks for sharing with us, Rho, and congratulations on this finish.

Hi Everyone!

I know I haven't played along in a while. I wanted to show you what I designed using the ideas of blocks from December and January. I had appliqued my dots on 10 1/2 inch squares (the dots were a little too big so I didn't enter them in the lotto). Then in January I made the lotto blocks and had fun with them... The idea of this quilt came then. I cut the 10 1/2 inch dot squares wonky (so the dots aren't centered) and made some more tic-tac-toe blocks. Then I made some hourglass blocks to represent x's. I did them all with a layer cake of Spring Magic. So this is "X's, O's, and Tic-Tac-Toes". Sophie had said she wanted to see it when it was done... it isn't quilted yet but at least I finally got the top together.

Did you make a Circle quilt?

Weekly Themed Quilt Contests I thought of our Polka Dot block winners and the quilts they made when I read that the theme this week is circles.

You can read the details of this week's virtual quilt contest (and check out the prize) on the Quilting Gallery blog here:

Another interesting Circle Quilt and National Quilting Day

If you were a fan of the polka dot blocks we made in December,  surf over to Kathy York's blog and check out the circle quilt she made from her new fabric line, Urban Landscape.

I also have a photo of a cool circle quilt (with an interesting twist) from the Dallas Quilt Show last weekend . . . but almost all of my photos are still in the camera.  Uh oh ... didn't someone make a commercial about that?

National Quilting Day (in the US) is coming up this weekend . . . is anyone planning to do something especially quilty?  (You can read about the origins of National Quilts Day here.)  I am planning to join some of the members of the new Dallas chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild for a sew-in.   I still need to decide for sure on which project to pack-up and take along.

Baby quilt (polka dot blocks)

Here are a few shots of the baby quilt I made with the pink polka-dot blocks I won. It's done and ready to ship off to my cousin Sarah, who just had a baby girl. The first 3 photos are of the wonky but fun quilting I did on your blocks and the final, of course, is the finished quilt. It was fun to make! Thanks for the great blocks. Ginny

Final blocks received!

I just opened an envelope with 4 beautiful polka-dot blocks from Debbie in Israel. The envelope had been opened in the mail, but the blocks were in a plastic bag and had a tag inside with my address and hers. These will be perfect for the baby quilt I'm working on. Thanks!

Polka Dot Progress . . . .

It's almost a done UFO! I put on the coral colored side and corner triangles today and it's aprox. 60" x 80". I just can't decide if I'll make it bigger. But I'm happy with the results so far - -

Stars and Polka-Dots

Faced with making quilts from the Asian star blocks AND the polka-dot blocks I was lucky enough to win two months in a row I decided to combine my booty and make one twin-sized quilt for my 10-year-old son Peter. I was able to buy a sparkly Asian-feeling green striped fabric for the sashing----green's his favorite color. And I grouped the blocks in sets of 4, with 2 dots and 2 stars each, to balance the patterns and make it more "boyish." Needless to say, I wasn't able to use blocks that had too much pink in them, or a couple of the cool blocks with pictures on them he didn't like ("I won't be able to sleep with that Asian woman looking at me!"). I'm already working to make a baby quilt for a girl with some of the left-over blocks. Thanks to all! Ginny
