In September, we're making a liberated, cruvey version of a beginner quilter's classic: Rail Fence.
Ginny made this great example.
Download my block directions here: Curved Rail Quilt Block
This block is a great introduction to cutting and sewing free-hand curves. The blocks are made three, by stacking fabrics, cutting the curves and switching the fabrics.
FABRICS
You'll need three different Batik fabrics with good contrast to one another so everyone can appreciate the beautiful curves you create and sew.
The MAXIMUM number of blocks you can make for chances in the drawing is NINE. You must use three unique fabrics for each three blocks, or nine different batik fabrics if you make the maximum of nine.

VIRTUAL QUILT
For an idea how a bunch of curvy batik rails might look together, here are photos of blocks made by BĂ©atrice, Christa, GInny, Giselle, Joan, Julie, Karen, Kate, Kathie, Laurina, Michelle, Nancy, Pat, Pokey and Shannon.
Although the proportions of this virtual quilt are a little long and the blocks were randomly arranged, it's a good look at how everyone's fabric choices and original curves will play together.
This one will be a favorite for me. I love curved piecing and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Batiks.
ReplyDeleteHello Everyone,
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time and I am not for sure I can get this to post. Anyway I will be making 9 blocks for the September Lotto and posting pictures next week if I can figure everything out.
Have fun sewing
Debra
I'm not familiar with the term "liberated". Can you explain it, please.
ReplyDeleteThanks from Gwen in Cape Breton.
Thank you so much.
