Words and Roses - an update

Last fall, my intention was to FINISH this project before St. Valentine's Day.  I humbly confess that I only just got around to pulling it all out of the box before the holiday.  With all your lovely gifts of rose blocks, you can begin to see my intended design for the quilt.

This isn't all the word blocks I won in the Block Lotto a year ago–so don't panic if you don't see yours, but it's all I had space for on my temporary design wall (AKA a flannel-backed tablecloth).

Lisa's Cutie block arrived yesterday.  Thanks again to everyone.  I love these.

Kristin's blocks received

I received Kristin's blocks on Friday, so I think that is the last of the bunch. Thank you all so much. I' m still mulling the arrangement, etc. but thought I would post a photo of all on my upstairs carpet "design wall". (My other design wall has 2 other projects pinned on it. As soon as I got this laid out and turned on my camera, both cats showed up seriatum to lie right in the middle of the blocks, so they are currently in prison behind closed doors untill I get this posted. This will make quite a large quilt, which is a nice surprise - so many of you made really long words. I'm thinking of making a number of variations of pieced hearts to serve as spacers between the words, but I'm just starting to play with fabrics and layouts. Thanks again to all.

Also, I had the rare pleasure on Thursday night to tour the preview show of the Dallas Quilter's Guild Quilt Celebration with Sophie. I hope you all get to meet her someday-- she's even nicer and more fun in person!

Louise's BABE is here

Louise's block arrived yesterday.  Thank you for the pretty block.   I now have all the blocks coming to me except Lisa's.   I had a border inspiration at the Dallas Quilt Show yesterday and plan to get started as soon as my bureaucratic woes calm down.I received a piece of mail from the government yesterday that makes absolutely no sense and it isn't clear that I will ever be able to clear things up.

My Design Wall So Far

I received February blocks from Laura and Michelle.  Here's how my design wall (which is clearly more of a curtain) looks this weekend with the blocks made by Andra, Kristin, Laura, Michelle and me.

The First Word Blocks have Arrived!

Blocks from Andra and Kristin are here and they are great!  Thank you so much. I've told myself that I need to wait until they all arrive before I start thinking about a setting, but these already look great up on the wall.

Went to post office yesterday to mail my two word blocks to Linda. I had an extra P so I put that in the envelope too! Looking forward to seeing how you set these blocks...

Post Script on Free-pieced Letters

One of the reasons I decided we should try those liberated letter blocks so early in the year was that I was afraid that, with Tonya's upcoming book on the subject, her instructions could soon disappear from the web.  This morning I read a note on the libquilters yahoo group that confirms it's a possibility:

Anyway, Tonya is slowly but surely moving her tutorials from Bonnie's
site to her own web site (http://unrulyquilter.com).

A word of warning! We were chatting the other day and she said that
some of them might disappear forever, depending on what the publishers
want to put in her book, most notably the Alphabet tutorials. At the
moment they are still on the Quiltville site and can be downloaded or
printed in PDF format.

Whether you tried her letter tutorial or planned to try it sometime in the future, even if you plan to buy her book when it is published and available, you might want to save a copy of the Tonya's Alphabet Pages before they disappear.
