Playing with African violets

Today I did my block for the July (!) Bee I am in. One of the requirement for the block was to make a flower in the block so I thought I would use the African violet block from the blocklotto last month that I DIDN'T win as I loved that block so much and Sophie had nicely provided instructions for different sizes of blocks. I followed Ellie's example of a pansy block but modified it slightly when I realised I made a mistake in the cutting!

I used the triangles off-cuts of my pansy to make the tiny pinwheel blocks

Tick Tock Tick Tock ... Vivi and Shannon I need to hear from you

Vivi and Shannon,

I am waiting to hear from you ... and getting a little worried because:

• I know Shannon is a very newly newlywed and could be otherwise occupied ... AND she's a newbie who possibly doesn't know "you must be present to win."
• Vivi missed out once before because it was the weekend and she didn't have internet access at home and I'd really hate to deprive her of a set of lotto blocks AGAIN.

But, rules are rules and this one exists for a reason.  Ask Terry, who just sent me a correction for her address.  Had I not asked her to confirm it (or waited for her reply), it's likely that all her blocks could have gone astray.  I'm only a slightly dyslexic human and I make mistakes ... that's why I also ask for all of you to check my work ;-)

I know I didn't make the deadline this month (SORRY!) so I will donate my blocks since I'm too late. I laid my son down for a nap and forgot to upload them before the nap, GAH!

3 last minute and final blocks

Well finally, with the time difference being favorable to me, I managed to put together another 3 blocks - taking my total to 8 - one short of the maximum.

Fingers crossed now as the draw is near. I could very well see a lovely African Violet wall-hanging in my bedroom as it would be the right colour scheme. Dreaming, dreaming - before I am off to prepare diner.

I made two more blocks this morning. Had planned to have more, but one had to be redone and I threw in the towel. It was a beautiful block and I hope to make more of these when I don't win :).

Sorry about the photo quality. My vacation photos did not upload last night; that proved a problem for this morning's violets.

Hopefully the long weekend will help me get a head start on next month's blocks.

A Solo Violet

I made a single block this month.

Been crazy busy with moving and unpacking.

It felt good to turn on the machine and sew a bit.  and then I had to find the camera.

Which I did - it was packed with the tupperware.

Why?  I have no idea!

African Violet crib quilt

 Hi everyone,  here are a couple pictures of a crib quilt I've made from this month's pattern.  I was thinking of adding a border of white or black to the quilt, but now I'm leaning toward no additional border and just binding the quilt in black.

Any thought or suggestions?  Without the extra border the quilt measures approx 34" x 44".
