It is Finished! ~ ~ Heart in a Snowball Quilt ~ rho

I am so happy that this is complete..... now I can push on to
the next UFO! Though the colors look royal (sashing and borders),
it is really, purple. I used a double seminole border. After adding
everyone's blocks, and making the sashing 1 -1/2", the width was
still not as wide as desired, so I continued until the width was 80"
and the length was 95". I am happy with the results. I don't know,
I just like to make larger quilts, most of the time.
Many, many thanks to all of you who contributed to the blocks
in my quilt for Feb's block lotto. They are really, really appreciated! And
thanks to you Sophie for hosting!
Happy Quilting Everybody!

Feb blocks

Hey, everyone! Here are my nine blocks. I love purple and I love hearts, but needle turn applique, not so much ;-)! (I'm glad I tried it, though.)

Kristin's blocks

Hi everyone,

Here are 5 blocks for this month. This was my first attempt at needleturn applique, and, as I said on my blog, it will probably be my last!! You can tell that a beginner did these blocks...don't say I didn't warn you! Even though it was a daunting task, I am glad that I completed these blocks and at least tried a new technique. (sorry the color is terrible in this picture. All the reds and purples are different. And they ARE red and purple despite what the picture looks like!)

Congratulations to all the January winners.

Applique Heart in a Snowball for February

Heart in a Snowball BlockFor February, we are making traditional snowball blocks with hearts appliquéd on the center.

This version of the snowball block was published in 1911 by Joseph Doyle, a Newark New Jersey company that printed at least two booklets offering quilting patterns, The Patchworker's Companion and Patchwork and Quiltmaking.

The heart is the classic shape for learning needleturn appliqué because it gives you the opportunity to practice straight and curved lines and inside and outside points.

. . . and your results do not have to be perfect to creae a great looking block . . . mine weren't and I think my block is pretty cute ;-)
