THREE WINNERS!!!

cookie michele's Feb 2009 Heart nine plus one

Hello, I sure enjoyed this months block. I loved the colors and enjoyed the applique. I did win the bright cracker blocks last year and I plan to turn it from a UFO to a lap quilt.

I'm so glad to have tried a few different types of applique!

Feb blocks

Hey, everyone! Here are my nine blocks. I love purple and I love hearts, but needle turn applique, not so much ;-)! (I'm glad I tried it, though.)

Kristin's blocks

Hi everyone,

Here are 5 blocks for this month. This was my first attempt at needleturn applique, and, as I said on my blog, it will probably be my last!! You can tell that a beginner did these blocks...don't say I didn't warn you! Even though it was a daunting task, I am glad that I completed these blocks and at least tried a new technique. (sorry the color is terrible in this picture. All the reds and purples are different. And they ARE red and purple despite what the picture looks like!)

Sylvia's Heart Blocks

Here are 9 blocks from Sylvia (imjin53)

Our new total so far this month is 65 blocks.

February heart blocks

Here are my heart blocks for February. These were fun to do!! Sorry the picture is so dark.

rho's Feb Blocks

Finally, I think I've done it.
Here are my pics for February's Block Lotto~ (9)

Barbara's Blocks

Here are my 4 February blocks.

Congratulations to all the January winners.

Blocks from Béatrice, Carolyn, Michelle and Sandy

Four of the sneek-peekers wasted no time in making these beautiful 32 blocks.

Béatrice (béapatch) hand-appliquéd all eight of her blocks.

Caroline (quiltermomma) confessed that "They weren't as hard as I imagined." Here are her nine blocks.

Michelle (momof11) made 5 hand appliqué blocks and 4 machine appliqué–topstitched with matching thread.

And here are 6 machine appliqué blocks from Sandy (centergranny). She used monofilament to stitch down her hearts.

I think we're off to a beautiful start this month.

Applique Heart in a Snowball for February

For February, we are making traditional snowball blocks with hearts appliquéd on the center.

This version of the snowball block was published in 1911 by Joseph Doyle, a Newark New Jersey company that printed at least two booklets offering quilting patterns, The Patchworker's Companion and Patchwork and Quiltmaking.

The heart is the classic shape for learning needleturn appliqué because it gives you the opportunity to practice straight and curved lines and inside and outside points.

. . . and your results do not have to be perfect to creae a great looking block . . . mine weren't and I think my block is pretty cute ;-)
