July blocks by strip method

Here are my ten blocks, which I made by the "strip method".

Make your three cuts in one direction, switch very other piece, and sew the strips together to make two new blocks.

Lay them over each other, right ride up, matching the seams, and cut again three times.

Again switch every other piece to make two blocks.
In sewing these together I tried to match the MIDDLE seam, and let the others fall where they wanted to.

  1. I'm thunking myself on the head again because I have NO IDEA why I didn't realize this would be easier ... your blocks look great. Thanks for the step-by-step photos.

I've added them to the list.

  3. Thanks for the tip! I've only made one pair so far so I'll give that a go for the rest.

  4. Thank you for posting this....

I had actually thought to test making the blocks this way - and I picked two charm squares to make the three cuts and then sew together again.

But then when I looked at the result, I could not picture swapping the the next strips to make the 16-patch. I kept looking and looking at the pieces... I didn't have the confidence to make the next cuts even though these were just two 'throw away' charm squares.

Now though I can see what to do - and I did it with my sample charm blocks.

Thank you for helping me push ahead!

Now I have two more little blocks to make another mugrug and practice my binding technique! (Although I was so excited to read your post that I didn't document my steps for my own blog as I had intended to do.)
